Holidays and Year End Thoughts

Freight Capital wishes all Carriers the very best Season’s Greetings for a safe and happy holiday season.

As the holiday approaches and the year winds down, many people take stock in what occurred this year and then turn their hopeful eyes towards the new one.

The year started a little slow but there are definite signs that the economy is picking up along with freight rates, availability of loads and a general increase in business. Most notable is the driver market which has tightened up enough that some of the major fleet shippers increased owner-operator pay to meet new freight contracts in spot markets. That is welcome news.

After Giving Thanks, Give

The season of giving is here. After spending a little time contemplating all the things I am thankful for at Thanksgiving, I realized I have quite a lot: health, family, and friends. Everything else is just window-dressing, right?

Then someone sent me an email telling me that December 1 was designated the National Day of Pay-It-Forward. The premise is for each person to perform one random act of kindness to a stranger and they in turn “pay-it-forward” to generate a worldwide, viral case of kindness. Just think if everyone on earth made an effort to do a kindness to a stranger, there’s no telling how far-reaching the effect could go. Read the rest of this entry »

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving Day was originally observed in Europe as a harvest festival to express thankfulness, gratitude, and appreciation for a bountiful life.  New England history reports the first American Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 Plymouth Colony by 53 Pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag Native Americans.

Records show that Plymouth’s Thanksgiving began with a few colonists going out “fowling,” for turkeys. When the Wampanoag made a surprise appearance at the settlement’s gate, the two groups socialized without incident. Read the rest of this entry »
